Used Pool Tables

Buying a used pool table is smart thinking for those that have a tight budget and love to play! However, there are a few things you should consider before buying a used pool table:

  • Take a cue ball and slowly roll it across the length of the table surface. Watch closely from any deviations from the straight line you rolled the ball on. Try this technique on a few different areas on the width of the table. If you see the ball curve at all, the table slate or underlying wood is warped. You will definitely want to avoid buying the table.
  • Chips or small damaged areas on the legs or siding of the table are tolerable with an aged table, but keep in mind that you will not truly restore detailed areas like wood carvings. If the table wood is poor looking and aged, consider that you can always sand and stain the legs yourself for a fresh look.
  • Always check the pockets and ensure that they are tight. Some older pockets that were cased with plastic have been known to cause problems since they were loosely screwed in to the wood. A hard shot will knock the pocket out of place, or return your ball unexpectedly.
