Foosball is a corruption of the word fussball, meaning football in German. In America, foosball is known simply as "foos", but has a underlying definition of "table soccer". Basically, foosball is setup in the form of a standard soccer game with players on each part of the field representing a team. Each player generally has 10 soccer players that are attached to spinning poles that allow for kicking movement. Once a ball is dropped, it is a race to see who can spin their poles and protect their goal the quickest to score.
Foosball is played all over the world, and highly competitive tournaments for cash prizes are quite common. Foosball is very popular in University and College dormitories as they allow for a physical alternative to video game competition. Foosball tables sit in the $500-$1000 range, but can come in much higher prices when you start looking at player detailing and the type of wood used.
